Snippet the Curious Kitten

A playful curiosity story for ages 4-6 about a little kitten who wonders what is behind every door and goes on a tiny adventure around the house.

Key takeaways

  • It is wonderful to be curious and ask questions.
  • Exploring carefully helps us learn new things.

A Very Curious Kitten

In a cozy house with yellow curtains lived a tiny grey kitten named Snippet. She had bright green eyes and a tail that always stood straight up like a little flag.

Snippet was very, very curious. She always wanted to know: What is that? Where does that go? What's behind there?

One morning, Snippet sat in the hallway. She saw a row of doors. Some were open. Some were closed.

"I wonder," said Snippet, "what is behind all these doors?"

Behind the First Door

Snippet padded over to the first door. It was open just a crack. She pushed it with her little nose. Creak.

Inside was the kitchen! It smelled like toast and milk.

"Ooh," said Snippet. She saw a shiny bowl on the floor. She saw a dripping tap go plip, plip, plip. She watched a crumb roll across the floor.

"How interesting!" she purred. Then off she went to the next door.

Behind the Second Door

The second door led to the garden. Snippet peeked outside.

A butterfly floated by — flutter, flutter. A bird hopped on the grass. A leaf spun down from a tree and landed right on Snippet's nose.

Achoo! Snippet sneezed.

She watched a busy ant carry a crumb ten times its size. "Wow," whispered Snippet. "I wonder how it carries something so big."

There was so much to see! But Snippet was curious about the rest of the house too.

Behind the Third Door

The third door was the living room. Snippet crept inside.

She found a big soft sofa. She found a ball of red yarn. She batted it once — boing! — and it rolled under a chair.

She found a sunny patch on the carpet, warm and golden. She found her own reflection in a shiny vase and tilted her head. "Who is that other kitten?" she wondered. Then she realized — it was her! She gave a happy little chirp.

One Door Left

Snippet looked down the hallway. There was just one door left. It was closed.

"I wonder what's behind there," she said. Her tail flicked with excitement.

She reached up and pushed the door. It swung open slowly. Creeeeak.

Inside was a cozy little room. And in the middle was a soft basket lined with a fuzzy blanket. And curled up in the basket was —

"Mama!" cried Snippet.

Home Sweet Home

Mama Cat opened one sleepy eye and smiled. "There you are, my curious one. Did you have a good adventure?"

"Oh yes!" Snippet purred. "I saw the kitchen and the garden and the living room. I saw a butterfly and an ant and a ball of yarn. There's so much to wonder about!"

Mama Cat licked the top of Snippet's head. "Being curious is a wonderful thing," she said. "It helps you learn all about your world. Now come and rest. You can explore again tomorrow."

Snippet snuggled into the cozy basket beside her mama. Her tail still twitched, just a little, thinking of all the new things she had seen.

And as she drifted off to sleep, she was already wondering: What new things will I discover tomorrow?

The gentle lesson: It is wonderful to be curious and to ask questions. Exploring carefully helps you learn new things about the world around you.
