Pim the Penguin and the Lost Sock
A warm early-years story for ages 4-6 about Pim, a little penguin who loses his red sock and learns, with help from kind friends, that sharing makes a cold day feel cozy.
Key takeaways
- Asking friends for help is a brave and kind thing to do.
- Sharing what we have makes everyone feel warm and happy.
A Cold Morning on the Ice
On a big white land of ice and snow lived a small penguin named Pim.
Pim had two warm red socks. He loved them very much. He wore them every day to keep his little feet cozy on the cold, cold ice.
One frosty morning, Pim woke up and looked down at his feet.
One sock was there. Bright and red.
But the other foot was bare!
"Oh no," said Pim. "Where is my other sock?"
Looking Everywhere
Pim looked under his snowy bed. No sock.
He looked behind the big rock. No sock.
He waddled to the edge of the ice and peeked at the cold blue water. No sock there either.
His bare foot felt colder and colder. Pim sat down on the snow and his beak went all wobbly.
"I will never find it," he said sadly.
A Friend Comes By
Just then, a little snow bird named Wren flew down beside him.
"Why so sad, Pim?" asked Wren.
"I lost my red sock," said Pim. "And my foot is so cold."
Wren tilted her head. "Let us look together," she said. "Two friends can look better than one!"
Pim smiled a small smile. "Thank you, Wren."
Searching Together
Wren flew up high and looked all around.
Pim waddled low and looked all around.
They looked by the ice slide. They looked by the fish pond. They looked under a pile of soft snow.
But the red sock was nowhere.
Pim's foot was very cold now. He shivered a little.
A Warm Idea
Wren saw Pim shiver. She had a kind idea.
"Pim," she said. "I have lots of soft feathers. Let me share one with you!"
Wren pulled out one of her warmest, fluffiest feathers. She wrapped it gently around Pim's cold foot.
"Oh!" said Pim. "It is warm! It is so soft and warm!"
His foot did not feel cold anymore. And his heart felt warm too.
The Happy Ending
Just then, a baby seal popped up from the water.
"Excuse me," said the seal. "Is this yours? It floated by my pond." And there, in the seal's flippers, was the red sock!
"My sock!" cried Pim. "Thank you, kind seal!"
Pim pulled on his red sock. Now both feet were warm.
But he did not give the soft feather back. "Keep it," said Wren. "A gift from a friend."
So Pim wore one red sock and one soft white feather. And every day after, when a friend felt cold, Pim shared something warm too.
Because Pim learned that sharing makes a cold day cozy, and asking for help is a brave and kind thing to do.
The gentle lesson: When you feel sad or cold, a friend can help. And sharing what you have makes everyone feel warm.
