At school you use lots of things every day. Each one has its own word. Let's read the classroom words!

Say each word out loud. Then look at the picture.

Classroom word mat

Here is your word mat. Each word has a picture:

• pencil ✏️
• book 📖
• desk 🪑
• teacher 👩‍🏫
• bag 🎒
• ruler 📏
• scissors ✂️

Point to each word. Read it slowly. Can you find these things in your classroom?

Sound them out

Some classroom words are short. You can sound them out:

• bag has the sounds b-a-g.
• desk has the sounds d-e-s-k.
• book has the sounds b-oo-k.

Say each sound, then blend them together. That is how we read longer words too!

What do we do with them?

Each classroom word has a job:

• We write with a pencil.
• We read a book.
• We sit at a desk.
• Our teacher helps us learn.
• We carry our things in a bag.
