Three Pigs Build Three Houses

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. They were brothers, and they loved each other very much.

One day, their mother said, "You are big now. It is time to build your own homes."

So off they went, down the road, trot, trot, trot.

The first little pig was in a hurry. He saw some yellow straw. "I will build my house with straw!" he said. "It is quick and easy." In just one hour, his house was done. Then he ran off to play.

The second little pig saw some brown sticks. "I will build my house with sticks!" he said. "That is quick too." Soon his house was done, and he ran off to play with his brother.

The third little pig saw some red bricks. "I will build my house with bricks," he said. "It is hard work. But it will be strong and safe." He worked all day. Tap, tap, tap. He was tired, but he did not stop until his house was finished.

Along Came a Wolf

The next day, a big, hungry wolf came down the road. He saw the straw house. He licked his lips.

"Little pig, little pig, let me come in!" he called.

"No, no! Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!" said the first pig.

"Then I will huff, and I will puff, and I will blow your house down!"

The wolf took a deep breath. He huffed and he puffed, and — whoosh! — the straw house flew away.

The first little pig ran fast to his brother's stick house.

The wolf followed. "Little pigs, let me come in!"

"No, no! Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins!"

"Then I will huff, and I will puff!" The wolf blew hard. Crash! The stick house fell down too.

The Strong Brick House

The two pigs ran as fast as they could to the brick house. Their brother opened the door. "Quick! Come inside!" he said.

The wolf came to the brick house. "Little pigs, let me come in!"

"No, no! Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins!"

The wolf huffed. He puffed. He huffed and puffed again. His face went red. But the strong brick house did not move. Not one tiny bit.

The wolf was tired out. He gave up and went away, and he never came back.

Inside the warm brick house, the three little pigs cheered. "Hard work kept us safe!" said the third pig. And from that day on, all three pigs built strong, safe homes.

They lived happily ever after.

The moral: Take your time and do a good job. Hard work keeps you safe.
