Say hello to the alphabet

The alphabet is a set of letters. We use letters to make words. There are 26 letters. They go from A to Z.

Let's say them in order:

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

Can you sing the ABC song? It helps you remember!

Each letter has a name and a sound

Every letter has a name. We say "ay" for A and "bee" for B.

Every letter also has a sound. A says "a" like in apple. B says "b" like in ball.

Words start with letters

Here are some fun words. Each one starts with a letter:

• A — Apple 🍎
• B — Ball ⚽
• C — Cat 🐱
• D — Dog 🐶
• E — Egg 🥚
• F — Fish 🐟
• G — Goat 🐐
• S — Sun ☀️
• T — Tree 🌳
• Z — Zebra 🦓

Say each letter. Then say the word. Can you hear the first sound?

Big and small letters

Each letter has two shapes. One is big (A). One is small (a). Both are the same letter!
