Look Out of the Window
Let's look outside. What can you see today?
Maybe the sun is shining. Maybe big clouds are in the sky. Maybe rain is falling, drip, drip, drip.
All of these are called the weather. The weather is what the sky and the air are doing.
Some days are warm. Some days are cold. Some days are wet, and some days are dry. Let's find out about them all!
A Sunny Day
The sun is up in the sky. It is big and bright and yellow.
On a sunny day, the air feels warm. The sun keeps us cosy. It helps the flowers grow tall.
When it is sunny, we wear a sun hat. We put on sun cream to keep our skin safe. Then we can play outside all day.
But do not look right at the sun. It is too bright for our eyes!
A Rainy Day
Look up. The clouds are big and grey. Then, splish, splash — it starts to rain!
Rain is water that falls from the clouds. Drip, drop, drip, drop. It makes the grass green and gives the plants a drink.
On a rainy day, we put on our boots. We open our umbrella. Now we can splash in the puddles. Splash! Splash! What fun.
When the rain stops, the world smells fresh and clean.
A Windy Day
Whoosh! Can you feel that? It is the wind.
Wind is air that moves. We cannot see the wind, but we can see what it does. It pushes the leaves. It blows our hair. It makes the trees go sway, sway, sway.
On a windy day, we hold on to our hats! And we can do something fun. We can fly a kite!
Up, up, up goes the kite. The wind lifts it high into the sky. Hold the string tight!
A Snowy Day
Brrr! It is cold today. Look — it is snowing!
Snow is soft and white. It comes down slow from the sky. Each tiny snowflake is different. The snow covers the ground like a soft white blanket.
On a snowy day, we put on a warm coat, a hat, gloves and a scarf. Now we are cosy and warm.
Then we can play! We can build a snowman. We can throw soft snowballs. The snow makes a crunch, crunch, crunch under our boots.
A Cloudy Day
Some days the sky is full of clouds. The clouds are white or grey. They float along, slow and soft.
Clouds are made of tiny drops of water, too small to see one by one. When lots of drops come together, the rain falls down.
On a cloudy day, the sun hides behind the clouds. It is not too hot and not too cold. It is a good day for a walk.
Can you find shapes in the clouds? That one looks like a sheep. That one looks like a boat!
A Rainbow!
Look! The rain has stopped. The sun is out again. And up in the sky — a rainbow!
A rainbow has lots of colours. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. It curves across the sky like a big bridge.
A rainbow comes when the sun shines through tiny drops of rain. It is very pretty. It does not last long, so look fast!
Weather Every Day
The weather is busy. It can change from day to day, and even from morning to night.
It can be sunny, then rainy. It can be windy, then calm. Today it is one thing. Tomorrow it may be another!
So when you wake up, look out of the window. What is the weather doing today? And what will you wear to go and play?
The weather is a wonder. Every day is something new!
