Nursing Career Advancement
Advance your nursing career through specialization, leadership, and professional development. This course helps practicing nurses map career pathways, plan certifications, build leadership and communication skills, and prepare a competitive portfolio for advancement.
About This Course
Nursing Career Advancement is a professional development course for practicing nurses who want to take deliberate, informed steps toward the next stage of their career. Rather than clinical instruction, the course focuses on career strategy: understanding clinical ladders and advanced practice routes, choosing a specialty, planning certifications, and developing the leadership and communication skills that employers expect in senior and lead roles.
Over eight weeks you will build a personalized career plan, assemble a professional portfolio, and practice the interview and self-advocacy skills needed to compete for charge nurse, educator, specialty, management, and advanced practice positions. All guidance is oriented toward professional growth and does not replace clinical training, employer policy, or the requirements of your licensing board and certifying organizations.

I've been an RN for six years and felt stuck. This course gave me a concrete plan for moving onto my hospital's clinical ladder and choosing a certification. The portfolio and CV module alone was worth it - I used it to apply for a charge nurse role and got the interview.
James Okonkwo
Very practical and honest. I appreciated that it focuses on career strategy rather than pretending to be clinical training. The evidence-based practice module helped me read research with more confidence. I'd have liked a few more region-specific examples, but the frameworks transfer well.

As a nursing student about to graduate, this gave me a long-term view of where my career could go. The certification roadmap and the capstone career plan made everything feel achievable instead of overwhelming. Karen clearly knows the real-world steps nurses have to take.
